FEMA Camps Open: Target Homeless

Bookmark this article/post. As ‘Updates’ and new information comes to our attention, this post WILL be updated. Also be sure to follow the ‘FEMA Camps Open’ series. Each grouping being targeted will be documented in this series (as the information is made available).

“First they came for the homeless, but I said nothing because I wasn’t homeless…”

That’s how it always starts out. A grouping seemingly noone will notice missing disappears first. Then the next group. Then the next.

Here in America it is the homeless to go first. Who will be next? I’d rather not find out. Homeless/jobless or not, these are people. If we do not speakup in defense of these people, well you know how the saying goes “…and then they came for me. Noone spoke up for me, because noone was left.”

Miami may outlaw homelessness
Miami is surprisingly one of the more lenient cities in America if you’re homeless. Due to a 1998 law, the city provides shelter for more than 5,500 homeless people at any given time. If a proposed bill passes, the city may reneg on that deal and it may then be simply illegal to be homeless in Miami.

Miami Considers Jailing Homeless People For Eating, Sleeping In Public
In the 15 years since Pottinger , the number of people living on the streets has dropped from approximately 6,000 to 351, largely due to more shelters and support. Despite the program’s success, one Miami City Commissioner wants to back out of the deal and resume arresting homeless people for
living on the streets.

Feeding The Homeless BANNED In Major Cities All Over America
What would you do if you came across someone on the street that had not had anything to eat for several days? Would you give that person some food? Well, the next time you get that
impulse you might want to check if it is still legal to feed the homeless where you live. Sadly, feeding the homeless has been banned in major cities all over America. Other cities that have not banned it outright have put so many requirements on those that want to feed the homeless (acquiring expensive permits, taking food preparation courses, etc.) that feeding the
homeless has become “out of reach” for most average people.

FEMA Camps – Grand Opening! Praying on the homeless
Columbia, South Carolina voted unanimously to ban homeless people. This asinine inhumane ban is further adding insult to injury by “allowing” them, if they choose to remain, inside of a FEMA Camp just outside the city limits. While an offer of shelter sounds like a kind generous idea, they will not be allowed to come and go freely and will essentially become
prisoners for a crime they haven’t even committed.

Columbia, SC, to exile its homeless
The Columbia City Council unanimously approved the plan, creating special police patrols that would enforce “quality of life” laws involving loitering, public urination and other crimes not necessarily restricted to the homeless population. Those officers would then offer the homeless a choice: Go to jail for their homelessness or be shuffled to a 240-bed, 24-hour shelter on the outskirts of town, which they wouldn’t be allowed to easily leave. That second option isn’t jail, mind you, because the homeless are being confined with the help
of a local charitable organization. It’s charitable incarceration, you see. The homeless can leave, but they need to set up an appointment and be shuttled by a van.

Tampa Bay Criminalizes Homelessness
Jail is now the answer for homeless people found sleeping on the streets in Tampa Bay. Following the passage of the city’s
new ordinance, many protestors have spoken out in opposition, arguing that this is actually creating even more barriers for the homeless population. While homelessness is a major issue in Tampa — the city now has the most homeless people for a mid-sized city according to a recent study — many
residents of the area and surrounding areas are outraged by the new law. Three such individuals joined HuffPost Live’s
Alyona Minkovski to discuss the issue.
